Verzion Message+ Blank Messages FIXED!

If you are having problems with Verizon Message+ on OS X Sierra, read on. There’s a simple way to fix disappearing, blank, and missing messages on Verizon Message+ Desktop messaging app.

Update: 27 January 2017

The Message+ App for OSX has been updated to version 2.0.2 with “Bug Fixes & stability improvements”. Since this update, I have had no issues with disappearing messages. The app seems to be faster and more stable overall as well, but some users still experience intermittant high cpu usage.

Instructions below:

  1. Click on the Message+ menu in the top left and navigate to Preferences. How you get here might be different for PC and OSX. This is a screenshot of the Mac OS Menu.message-preferences
  2. Once you have the preference menu open, modify the font size on the very bottom. I adjusted my font size to small and suddenly all of the messages returned. I am now able to send and receive messages without any blank messages appearing. message-plus-adjust-font-size

Many users have reported disappearing messages in macOS 10.12 Sierra and macOS  10.11 El Capitan, but this should fix the issue for both. You may also be able to adjust your font size to any size but the default in order to get the message app to perform normally, but I have tested and confirmed the smallest font size solves the problem. Unfortunately, you may need to re-adjust the font size periodically to keep the problem from occurring, but this is a good temporary fix until Verizon addresses the problem.

As a bonus, this fix also reduces Message+ CPU Usage to normal levels:

  1. This helped a little for me (Thanks!)
    But I’m still having a problem with the App hanging (beachball) every 5-10 seconds. Not sure if it’s just wildly incompatible with Sierra or what but it makes it nearly useless.

    1. Version 2.0.2 of the Messages+ came out on the 27th of last month. Be sure you’re updated and your problems should be solved!

      1. I have version 2.0.2. of Message+. The CPU usage and blank message bubble problems are not solved. Changing the font size works for a while, but then the empty message bubbles occur again, and it’s necessary to change the font size again. Sometimes within less than a minute. Changing the font size has no effect on the high CPU usage.

        1. Have you tried deleting some of your longer conversations to see if it has any effect on CPU usage? I noticed some of my older/longer conversations had a hang time when accessing them. Obviously not a real fix, but could be a short-term remedy.

            My biggest issue is the hanging, spinning wheel. The bubbles are fixed
            I have the latest app 2.4.7 I believe. I’m guessing it has something to do with lengthy messages as well. I’m going to attempt to set the phone app to delete messages at 300 per conversation (it’s suggestion) to see if that helps. So far doesn’t seem to make a difference.
            I also think it might be some sort of contact syncing issue. I currently have contacts syncing through gmail via the Mac contacts app but not sure if the Message+ application is also trying to check its own contacts via Verizon.
            Please let me know if you have any additional thoughts.
            I’ve tried everything I can think of and found online.

          2. And yes it is still getting killed in processing power. If in use it consistently hits 100% usage.

  2. NO – PROBLEM NOT SOLVED via any of the solutions here. I tried ALL of the above, and some random text boxes STILL COME UP invisible. I say “invisible” because the binary code for the text is really there – but the text doesn’t show. How do I know this ? – I clicked on the ‘copy’ option for the empty box, then pasted down perfectly good text! How about it Verizon, do you see a FIX on the horizon???? (Be careful of the advice you follow – some may get you into trouble, such as downloads and changes, aside from MAC approved or provided – although MAC’s are pretty smart).

    verizon developers should be fired or fed to dragons
    yet another clear demonstration of the lack of interest in supporting the OS X community

  4. I’m having a couple of issues:
    1. Hanging:
    I have had problems with the app hanging ever since the last upgrade.
    – This is happening both on my Mac Air 11″ and on my new 2017 MacBook, which I just purchased.

    2. Contacts not syncing:
    On my new 2017 MacBook, even after repeatedly “syncing contacts” (under File Contact Sync) I’m finding only some of my contacts are syncing with my Google Contacts.
    – Since this is not working for the majority of my contacts, might someone know how to add/modify the name to the contact directly inside the VZW message+ app?
