Definition and Meaning of FCC ID

FCC ID, sometimes incorrectly used FCCID, FccID, and Fccid a an acronym used to shorten “Federal Communications Commission Identifier”.

The Federal Communications Commission Identifier is a alphanumeric* set of characters used to identify each model of wireless device produced by a company and offered for sale in the USA.

*some FCC IDs contain “()”,”-“, “.”, and “/”

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the USA grants FCC IDs to products after the producer has submitted photos of the device, user manuals, and test reports made by authorized agencies certifying the device only operates within licensed wireless frequency bands. Wireless device manufactures must ensure their device does not over-radiate the consumers with wireless emissions before they offer their device for sale.

Some devices need FCC approval even if they do not purposefully transmit wireless emissions, for example computer monitors (many emit 50/60/120 Hertz as they refresh) and Microwaves (due to limited shielding).

FCC IDs can be searched on the site fccid.io where you can find all sorts of interesting information on the device.
